José Pariente Barrel Fermented Verdejo
White Wine
|
2019
Grapes from old Verdejo vines, with yields of 4,000 kilos per hectare, lovingly tended and fermented in French oak barrels, a combination of new and one-year-old followed by seven months batonnage gives a remarkably nuanced wine.
Bright and golden yellow to the eye, it has an intense, complex nose; spicy, slightly smoky, with ripe fruit and a hint of wood. There are also notes of exotic fruits and minerals. In the mouth, it is voluminous, unctuous and very elegant. Powerful, with a good acidity that ensures a long and lively passage. It presents a great balance between fruit and wood.
"One of the few barrel-aged verdejos from Rueda, specialist José Pariente also makes one of the best, managing to integrate the wood influence into the fruity expression of the variety, much in the same way as sauvignon blanc can handle oak-ageing (think white Bordeaux). 91 points."
