Giulio Cocchi

Our Story


Giulio Cocchi was a young and creative pastry chef from Florence, and in the late nineteenth century he moved to Asti, a small but lively town in the north west of Italy, not far from Torino. There, fascinated by the local food and wine tradition, he discovered Asti as being the capital of the Moscato grape and the tradition of blending wines with herbs and spices.

In 1891 Giulio Cocchi honed his expertise as a wine maker and distiller and offered a range of special aromatized wine. In 1913 he created tasting bars where people could taste his products. Well-know during the Belle Epoque period, the wines were soon exported to New York, London, Sydney, Africa and Venezuela, where the “Casa Cocchi de Venezuela” was founded and run for a long while in Caracas.

Today Cocchi wine-based vermouths and apertivos come from the original recipes to create the Cocchi style—flavour, simplicity and authenticity. Used as aperitifs, digestifs and in a wide range of cocktails, Cocchi can be found on any discerning bartender’s and drinks enthusiast’s list.
