About the Winery
The Szekszárd wine region has proven over millennia to be a unique habitat for viticulture, offering an exceptional opportunity to produce outstanding red wines, particularly in the east and south-west valleys of the hills. To the east, the landscape transitions into a plain that stretches toward the Carpathians. The rising sun’s rays warm the vine-covered hills early in the day, creating ideal conditions for grape growth. The true magnificence of the Szekszárd hills lies in its hidden valleys, where unique microclimates are formed. “For several years now, we have focused on crafting wines that are both elegant and inviting, while authentically reflecting the terroirs of the Szekszárd valleys. This approach is rooted in loess soils.” Experts assert that wines from loess soils are typically expressive, featuring fruity and floral aromas, with round acidity and tannins. These wines do not require extended aging; even the more robust varieties offer full enjoyment at a relatively young age. Loess is a loosely packed soil, with water retention properties similar to a sponge. It gradually releases stored water, providing a consistent benefit to the vines. Its high air content is essential for healthy soil life and supports strong vine roots. Loess is a key soil type in some of the world’s most renowned wine regions, including the Rhône Valley in France, several areas along the Rhein in Germany, Wagram in Austria, Central Otago in New Zealand, and of course, Szekszárd in Hungary.
