About The Producer
Austria - Halbturn
Winemaker
Thomas Stadler left economics studies and a flourishing sports career behind, to involve himself with his family's 40 ha winery. His is an elegant wine style, inspired by low intervention Burgundy wines.
Winemaker Vision
Innovation, low intervention and well-selected grapes are used to achieve an elegant, precise burgundy style. Wines are made to showcase the primary aromas of the grape and the terroir of the region. Low intervention is key. The wines are ready to drink when they come to market after 12-18 months of oak ageing and some months in the bottle.
The Terroir
The terroir and microclimate around lake Neusiedlersee are influenced by minerality from salt in the air from small salt lakes in the area and temperature and moisture regulation from the biggest step lake in this region. The cooler, drier climate means less intervention is required for healthy vines. The single vineyards Ried Kaiserberg on the Wagram and Ried Lehendorf on the Heideboden around Halbturn are very different from the soil structure: The Kaiserberg is on the south end of a gravel terrace which has been the beach of a primordial sea. Ried Lehendorf has a deep humus and sand soil. The area has strong winds the whole year ensuring proper temperature regulation in this Pannonian microclimate.
About the Winery
Thomas Stadler and Günther Neukamp began working together in 2019, on the production of exceptional low-intervention burgundy-style wines from the best-selected single vineyards of the Stadler family. Only 3000-4000 l/ha from selected grapes are stored and handled carefully in slightly toasted 500l French-style oak barrels for 12-18 months. Their first vintages are already winning awards and high accolades from the most respected names in the wine world.
