Bisquertt La Joya Single Vineyard Carmenère

|
2018

A delicious, yet lesser known grape varietal, Chilean Carmenere results in fantastically beautiful, medium-bodied, fruit-forward wines. With gentle tannins, and deep crimson colours, you can expect an array of berries, red fruits, spice, smokiness and earth on both the nose and palate.

The La Joya Single Vineyard Carmenere is from a selection of vineyards with deeper soils with more clay and gravel, which winemaker Felipe Gutiérrez says allow them to both capture water and - thanks to that gravel - also leave some room for oxygen in the soil. The vines are about 20 years old, and the fruit they bare gives wines with the herbal notes associated with the variety as well as lots of red fruits amid tannins with great grip, which is not necessarily related to Carmenere, although it is common in this area of Colchagua. A perfect red for aged cheeses.
