Azienda Broglia

Winery Profile: Broglia

The first known mention of the Gavi regions comes from records in the town hall of Genoa dated 791 AD. In those documents, reference is made to a placed called "Meirana", the same ancestral name for Azienda Broglia's La Meirana Vineyard.  Managed by brothers Gian Piero and Paolo Broglia, this 57 hectare estate winery has been repeatedly noted among the very best Gavi has to offer. From Gambero Rosso, Italy's premiere wine guide:

"The Bruno Broglia selection ’08 is at its best, easily attaining the Tre Bicchieri symbol: straw-yellow in colour with greenish hints it is very intense on the nose, mineral, with flint stone and white fruit up-front; of meaty substance on the palate, with austere and rigid finish, very clean. The Meirana ’08 is a touch simpler and fruitier, with delightful wild flowers up-front; rather round on the palate and a finish where a refreshing acidity comes to the fore once again."

The Portfolio:

2008 Gavi La Meirana—This wine is made in stainless - steel containers at controlled temperature. It ferments between 18 and 20 degrees in order to preserve its fruity and fresh flavour. The wine "La Meirana" shows the extraordinary characteristics typical of the area of Gavi where the delicious almond - taste, unique in its kind, can be found.

2008 Bruno Broglia Gavi di Gavi—This wine represents the best production of "La Meirana". It has been obtained from the grapes of old vineyards situated in an area called "Fasciola" and planted in 1953 and 1955. The yield of these vineyards is, on average, from 30 to 40 quintals per heetar. The grapes are collected in boxes and transferred directly to the presses in order to preserve their integrity.

The characteristics of the grapes, because of their structural richness and acidity, allow the production of this wine which is suitable to be preserved for years maintaining the same flavour and freshness. The name Bruno Broglia is in honour of the founder of the farm. Bruno Broglia's light straw- yellow colour is highlighted by shining pale green reflections; its bouquet is delicate, very persistent, fruity and reminiscent of the aristocratic scent of the grapes from which it is derived.
